bitey: week 16 - splash continued

A single fully rendered frame; I had an after throught that if the water is transparent then next time I need to add bubbles and followthrough trail of effects.

Rough splash animation from sheets, strings, beads to dissipation.

contrast - intermediate

My panel 5 study thumbnail drawing of a simple explosion.
right click video to loop

Test animation piece using MSL for a bigger impact; I've found if I have more frames during the stutter, there's more of a readible visually impact. I had to export this as a video as there's too much colour variance to read as a gif.

bitey: week 15 - contrast references

This is a Magic the Gathering card artwork that has a fantastic example of contrast to exhibit the main action. I've noticed a lot of MTG cards have this appeal prominent in their artwork. As they have such a small frame for the artwork on the individual cards, they are required to have a strong sense of composition and silhouette for the audience to promptly recognise the visual narrative.

These images are captures from the Marvel Avengers films, which I recalled have a multitude of CGI FX including both enhanced explosions as you would see similar to in our real world, as well as fantasy explosions and effects. A lot of these effects use the MSL (medium, small, large) technique as I've been reading about during this weeks Bitey lesson. I have found a few examples of these and have included them in this post.

I noticed there are a variance of other staggered styles that emphasise the type of explosion or effect. An example of this is in the magical abilities characters use, where their 'spell' flickers when being cast. This seems to add an authenticity to the spell they are casting that mimics real world flashes.

bitey: week 13 - cloudy smoke

Quick exercise from this weeks lessons on cloudy smoke.
A more fleshed out dungeon torch imported from Photoshop to complete one of the briefs.

light & shadow continued 2

I'm steadily starting to understand shadows and lighting a lot better, but I still have a lot of practice to go. So far, I've found different angled surfaces and objects leaning over the edges of others particularly difficult.

bitey: week 12 - light & shadow

Exercise learning the light source origins of shadows in a scene.
Reference: match flame casting animated shadows from bottles.
