troll expression

I bought a small desk mirror recently to use my own face for reference. I found this provided great reference for making my own expressions, as well as proportions of the face. Next time I want to be more expressionist and less finnicky with my lines.

I want to learn how to stretch my drawings to build humanoid fantasy characters. I plan to be uptaking inktober following the theme, "fantasy", to better build my skills for concept design. As there are countless resources for Blizzard fantasy characters, I'm going to initiate my research with their designs.

I've been practicing traditional arts more than digital recently; this is a life drawing sketch and an oil painting of a tiger from photographic reference.

I haven't tried much oil painting before, but I took advantage  of the full day life drawing class and gave it my best shot. I'm definitely going to paint more oils the following long session next month. I've been experimenting with various media, and I've found that the Sharpie oil pencils have proved especially effective.
